Pearl Jam’s Eddie Vedder takes aim at local council’s pavement chalk ban
Anne Wright (Herald Sun)

UPDATE 9.15am: THE owner of a local Nunawading café says he is delighted, if not a bit confused, that global rock icon Eddie Vedder supports him in a council battle over children’s pavement drawings.

The global rock icon has taken aim at a local mayor, ridiculing council policies that stop children drawing on pavements with chalk.

Vedder last night became an unlikely champion for a local Nunawading café, telling his audience he could not help earthquakes or disasters but the local story revealed in yesterday’s Herald Sun had caught his eye.

In that article Whitehorse Council mayor Ben Stennett said children were banned from drawing on the pavement outside a Nunawading café because it contravened graffiti laws, and to issue a permit would be a safety hazard.

PJ White, owner of Mt Pleasant Rd Café with his wife Sally, said it was great to have more support in their battle with the council.

“I find it extremely bizarre but it’s good that he did,” Mr White told heraldsun.com.au this morning.

“I’d be excited to cook for the guy, and the whole band, they’re all welcome. We’re veggies ourselves so we’d love to have them.”

Vedder was incredulous that the children were branded as vandals.

“It’s like saying when a child bites another child they’re a cannibal. No, they’re a child,” Vedder told the crowd.

Vedder said the owners of the café, Sally White and her husband PJ, were happy to “clear the slate” and wash the footpaths every day but urged people to write on the pavement in spite of the ban issued to the Mt Pleasant Rd café.

“I think lets all write “Authority”… I know that’s a good word and we’ll join another easier one… so we’ve got “authority” now write on top ‘f***’,” he said.

There’s also this Adelaide poster so I have no idea which one is coming my way but they are both extremely awesome.

There’s also this Adelaide poster so I have no idea which one is coming my way but they are both extremely awesome.

I have been so busy lately I have not been able to sit down at the computer. Seriously have not checked my email in quite a few days. Between my father-in-law being in town and trying to find a job and trying to decorate the house I’ve been extremely busy. Anyway, so much has happened in the Pearl Jam world! Although I am sure most of you already know I will post all the updates soon.

My dear friend Jodi who lives in Adelaide, Australia went to Eddie’s gig on Monday night and picked up this poster for me! She is a sweetheart for doing that. She also sent me the setlist and a friend of hers named Ian was nice enough to write reviews of the 2 Eddie shows he went to. I will post those shortly.
